Elon Musk Stirred The Twitter Beehive After Endorsing McCarthy For Speaker

Twitter CEO Elon Musk created a social media storm when he supported Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) to be Speaker of House.

Musk tweeted “Kevin McCarthy should become Speaker,” Thursday. This sparked a frenzy of reactions that ranged from respectful disagreement to mockery of Musk’s endorsement.

Jimmy Failla, Fox News Radio host, responded that Twitter needs a button called “Who Asked You.”

Ann Coulter, a conservative author, joked that this endorsement was just one of many odd deals made during the change in speakership.

She tweeted, “Wow McCarthy is making deals with EVERYBODY!”

Siraj Hashmi, podcast host, responded to the question with a funny picture of a cartoon cat awakening to say “No” before going back to sleep.

Laskie.com founder Chris Bakke got a laugh out of Musk with a sarcastic response.

Bakke tweeted, “George Santos should speak.” He’s a billionaire doctor who graduated at the top of his class from Harvard, Oxford, and has won 18 Olympic gold medals. This is someone you can trust.

Musk replied with a laughing emoticon.

New York Republican Rep.Elect George Santos is under intense scrutiny for allegedly misleading voters about the circumstances of his past.

Other Twitter users disagreed.

“I disagree with your opinion, McCarthy is not my favorite, but I’m still here to speak my mind,” Americano Media Senior Editor Emmanuel Rincon said. It’s great that we can discuss these issues. Jim Jordan was a great friend of mine.”

Juanita Broaddrick, the woman who accused Bill Clinton of sexual assault, posted, “Just cannot agree with you on that one.” Shortly thereafter, she tweeted: “Just can’t agree with you on this one.”

Tom Fitton, president of Judicial Watch, offered a nuanced reply to Musk.

He tweeted that McCarthy must agree to substantial reforms, checks and limitations on the power of the Speaker in order to win. “Left-right and right agree that the office is too powerful in recent decades. Americans should contact their House members to voice their opinions.

Musk later commented that Musk’s endorsement had caused a lot of controversy on the platform. “Subtle but I am beginning suspect opinions differ on this subject… McCarthy or seriously who?

Catturd, a popular conservative Twitter account, responded to Musk’s tweet with a screenshot from his own poll. It had a purported 103.354 votes cast, and an overwhelming majority for McCarthy.

Musk also shared another poll, asking him if he should “Stay Out of Politics” or “Keep Shooting His Feet.” This appears to be referring to the idea that “shooting oneself into the foot”, an idiom to describe when someone’s bad choices lead to misfortune.

Although Twitter users were upset by his endorsement of McCarthy, the majority of poll respondents voted for Musk to continue speaking his mind.
