President Joe Biden stated to reporters that he hoped the Republicans could “get their act together” and elect a speaker for the House.
Fox News reported that Biden stated, “With regard to fight over speaker — that’s my problem,” when asked about Republican Party fighting for the House speakership.
“It is just embarrassing to see the process take so long and how they treat each other. He added that the rest of the world was looking at him and asking, “Can we get our act together?”
Biden said, “This isn’t a good look” at the world stage. It’s not a good idea. It’s the United States of America. They should get their act together.
After a small group voted against Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), House Minority Leader, for Speaker three times on Tuesday, the House adjourned for the day. This left the House with no speaker and no new members able to take office on the first day.
Ashley Oliver, a reporter for Breitbart News, reported Tuesday:
The House adjourned after three rounds of voting — an historic feat since no speaker vote exceeded one in 100 years — and voting will resume on Wednesday.
In the first round of voting, 19 members defected. They first voted for a dispersed list of options and then united behind Rep. Jim Jordan (R–OH) in Round 2.
All 19 members, plus Rep. Byron Donalds (R.FL), voted for Jordan in the third round, despite Jordan pledging for McCarthy and nominating McCarthy in previous rounds.
On Wednesday, the House returned to the chamber to vote on the speakership until a majority is achieved.
