Katy Perry Traumatized American Idol Contestant With Harsh Critique

Three years after auditioning on “American Idol,” a former contestant said that judge Katy Perry still haunts him in his dreams.

Adriel Carrion, then 18, auditioned for the singing contest and shared with TikTok a moment that has triggered him for many years.

Carrion, while auditioning for season 19, posted a clip of the “Teenage Dream” singer declaring that “we have officially prohibited everyone from singing Watermelon Sugar.”

Lionel Richie, judge of “American Idol”, asked the auditioners to choose a song. Carrion and Anthony Guzman made a “sweet” duet.

Guzman replied, “We’re going to do something sweet for you,”

Perry’s eyes widened after the contestant announced her song. She said, “not Watermelon Sugar.”

The video showed Carrion’s reaction when Perry disapproved of their audition song. His wide smile quickly turned into a disappointed frown.

“I can’t eat another Watermelon Sugar,” the California Gurls songstress laughed.

Carrion, who was displaying earnest reactions, turned the camera to him.

“Is this ‘Watermelon Sugar? Oh, f —!” Perry exclaimed.

Present-day Carrion appeared in the selfie video and spoke out about his “nightmare.”

He explained, “It’s because it’s been three year’s and I’m still traumatized.”

“I can be getting my beauty rest and all I hear in my nightmares is ‘Not ‘Watermelon Sugar,’” Carrion continued.

The video clip was completed by his singing of tune the Harry Styles song.

“The Dark Horse” singer is an “American Idol” judge along with “All Night Long” artist Lionel Richie and country star Luke Bryan. Host Ryan Seacrest will join the judges for the singing competition’s sixth season on ABC and the 21st season overall. The series is slated to return to television in spring 2023.

“American Idol” first premiered on Fox in 2002 with Seacrest being the host since the show was created.
