Biden’s DHS Plans To Slash Ice Criminal Alien Deportations

Since President Joe Biden’s election, illegal alien convicts have been deported steadily. He plans to reduce the number of deportations this year.

“Under the Biden Administration, immigration enforcement has taken the back seat to open border policymaking, and the offensive FY24 budgetis yet another example,” Joe Edlow told Fox News. He was a senior official at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

Edlow also added:

Why is the agency being charged with the enforcement of immigration laws in order to remove less that 30,000 of the more than 400,000 criminal aliens who have been convicted and are currently on the non-detained docket? It’s time for Congress to appoint ICE to enforce the law and restore integrity to interior enforcement.

According to the Department of Homeland Security’s budget proposal for ICE 2024, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement(ICE) removed or returned 38,477 illegal migrants from the United States. This was 50 percent more than the 91,500 goal set by Biden’s first fiscal year.

The figure for 2022 represents a 74 per cent decrease in comparison to Fiscal Year (FY 2019), when ICE returned 150.141 illegal convicts back to their home countries or expelled them from the United States. This was under President Donald Trump’s administration. ICE met the goal of 151,000 deportations for FY 2018, which was exactly the same as the 145,262 deportations during FY 2018.

The DHS stated that ICE was working to increase cooperation with foreign countries and speed up deportations in the “Corrective action” section of the budget justification.

It stated that hiring more deportation officers as well as Office of the Principal Legal Advisor (OPLA), attorneys to improve docket management is a good way to reduce roadblocks and inefficiencies during the removal process.

The DHS also blamed “significantly lower removal numbers” on “environmental conditions and policy environment,” while insisting that “operational performances” had less impact. The Coronavirus pandemic was one such factor that DHS pointed out.

The pandemic began in Fiscal Year 2020. There were 103.762 deportations that year, which was lower than the previous two years of Trump Administration. The next fiscal year saw 39,149 ICE deportations for criminal aliens.

DHS claimed that deportations had “trended upward” through FY 2022, but the 11,458 reported in the fourth quarter were still far from the Trump Administration norms.

Even though the numbers are trending upward, Biden’s DHS plans reduce the number ICE deportations to the criminal population with a goal of only 29,389 in the 2023-2024 fiscal years.

ICE plans to reduce its “[a]verage day population of noncitizens kept in detention facilities” from 25,000 to 25,000 by Fiscal Year 2024. This would be the lowest figure since at least 2018.

DHS requests $8.7 billion for ICE funding in 2024.

Alejandro Mayorkas, DHS Secretary, implemented a policy in January that directed ICE agents to “raise pay for the millions illegal migrants who are pushing many older and slower Americans out of work,” Breitbart News’s Neil Munro reported.

This was months after the Biden Administration permitted the American Federation of Government Employees to “eliminate…from it membership” a labor organization representing approximately 6,800 ICE agents. They were then left without a collective bargaining arrangement.
