Two special prosecutors were assigned Wednesday to Alec Baldwin’s “Rust” movie shooting case.
Mary Carmack-Altwies, New Mexico First Judicial District Attorney, announced that Jason Lewis and Kari Morrissey will be “special prosecutors.”
Heather Brewer, First New Mexico Judicial district Attorney spokesperson, stated in a statement that Lewis and Morris’ vast experience and trial expertise would allow the state to pursue justice Halyna Hutchins.
Andrea Reeb was the former special prosecutor assigned to this case and resigned on March 14.
Carmack-Altwies will also step aside as a prosecutor in the case, to “focus on the larger public safety needs of New Mexico’s First Judicial District.”
Brewer stated that Carmack-Altwies would continue to prosecute drunken drivers and collaborate with local law enforcement. This will increase diversion efforts and secure convictions against the most prolific and dangerous offenders.
The district attorney stated, “My responsibility towards the people of First Judicial District exceeds any single case. That is why I have decided to appoint an extra prosecutor in the Rust case.”
“Kari Morrissey, Jason Lewis will pursue justice for Halyna’s death on behalf of the First Judicial District.”
Fox News Digital reached Baldwin’s legal team but they did not immediately reply to Fox News Digital’s request.
On Jan. 31, the actor from “30 Rock” was charged with two counts for involuntary murder in connection to Halyna Hutchins’ death. Last month, he pleaded not guilty.
