Michigan Rep. Kildee Diagnosed With Serious But Curable Form Of Cancer

Rep. Dan Kildee (D.MI) stated that he was diagnosed with “a severe but curable form” of cancer after undergoing tests with his doctors.

Kildee, co-chair of Democrats’ Steering and Policy Committee said that he discovered a “very small tumor” in his tonsils and was then diagnosed with squamous cells carcinoma.

The congressman stated that he would have surgery to remove the cancer in “a few weeks”. He also noted that the prognosis for his condition after surgery and treatment was “excellent.”

My doctors advised that it would take several weeks for me to fully recover from the surgery. I am eager to put this behind me and get back on track. Kildee explained that he will be absent from the office for a while, but that his congressional office will still remain open to assist his constituents in his absence.

This five-term congressman is one of the most vulnerable in every election and serves an important role on the House Democrats’ Steering and Policy Committee. Kildee won’t be allowed to vote while he recovers from surgery because there is no proxy voting.

Recent months have seen many other House Democrats being diagnosed with cancer.

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D.MD), the ranking member on the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability announced in December that his diagnosis was Diffuse Large Cell Lymphoma and would undergo chemotherapy. Rep. Joaquin Castro, D-TX, stated that she was currently recovering from cancer surgery.
