Washington Post Columnist Derided For Declaring MLB Teams Should Get Out Of Florida

One Washington Post columnist has been mocked for stating that Major League Baseball teams should be moved to Florida for spring training because of Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis’ “attack on diversity.”

What about the details?

Kevin B. Blackistone, in his Sunday column, “Baseball cannot longer ignore Ron DeSantis’s culture wars,” stated that the 15 MLB teams who call Florida home in February or March “should consider making this annual exercise an all Cactus League affair.” In other words, they should set up camp instead in Arizona.

Blackistone reacted to DeSantis’ call for “a new Advanced Placement high-school course in African American Studies” to be called “indoctrination” and dismissed its “educational value.” He threatened to “replace” the non-profit College Board that approved it.

DeSantis’ position against critical race theory was also criticised by the columnist, who said that the governor had “purposefully disfigured CRT” to make it “a boogeyman of White citizens who feel they are losing this nation that wasn’t theirs.”

Blackistone seems also to be unhappy with Florida’s “statewide mandate” that schoolbooks must be “age-appropriate and “suited to student needs,” along with the new law DeSantis introduced that prohibits public schools teaching about sexual orientation or gender identities unless they are “age appropriate, or developmentally appropriate.”

Although Blackistone admitted that his wish will not become a reality, he said that the teams could collectively or through MLB’s front offices let their discontent with DeSantis’s leadership, which hints at the troubling days past, be known.

What are readers’ reactions?

Blackistone’s piece had attracted almost 2,000 comments as of Wednesday afternoon. But a quick glance at the comments shows that many observers aren’t batting in Blackistone’s lineup. These are just a few:

One reader wrote, “I hope that baseball doesn’t give up to the woke mob.”

Another commenter said that DeSantis was not against diversity, as the racist writer wrote. He supports meritocracy, not equity BS or handouts to anyone of any color. Earn your money, prove your worth, don’t expose first graders and kindergartners to sex.

Another commenter said, “What an unbelievably ignorant columns.”

“I don’t think the baseball players want kindergarteners learning about gender changes rather than their ABCs. Perhaps a reporter should question them,” another commenter suggested sarcastically.

Another commenter said, “Enough with the boycott nonsense by sports social justice warrior journalists such as this guy.” “Most Americans want to see their sports free of athletes, teams and leagues becoming political activists. They watch sports to GET AWAY FROM the endless cultural & political war strife.”
Do you have any other suggestions?

Major League Baseball attempted this in 2021 when it moved the All-Star Game from Atlanta to avoid Georgia’s voting reforms law, which was criticized by the left. After the Atlanta Braves won the World Series, Rob Manfred, the commissioner of Major League Baseball was mocked by the fans.
