Census Data shows Mass Exodus From Democrat-Run Cities To Red States

Counties that overlap Democrat-run cities like Chicago, Los Angeles and New York are the top three places that have lost population. However, the largest inflows of people to Arizona, Texas and Florida have been according to census data.

According to a Press Release from the United States Census Bureau, Los Angeles County was the most affected county by population loss over the one-year period 2021-2022. Los Angeles County lost 90,704 residents.

Santa Clara County lost 15,650 residents, while Alameda County lost 14,840.

Cook County Illinois, which is home to Chicago, saw the loss of 68,314 residents during that same time.

Queens County in New York lost 50,112 residents, Kings County lost 46.970, and Bronx County lost 41.143 people between 2021-2022.

The Census Bureau reports that 68 percent of the United States’ largest counties experienced population growth.

Maricopa County in Arizona, which includes Phoenix and Harris County in Texas, with Houston as its county seat, had the highest inflows of new residents. Six of the ten counties with the highest population growth were in Texas, where Harris and five others experienced an aggregate of 209 182 people.

Florida was another state that saw a significant population growth. According to the Census Bureau, Polk, Lee and Montgomery combined gained 92 848 people.

According to the Census Bureau, while pandemic-era migration from large cities was a boon for rural areas, this trend was less dramatic between 2021-2022. While some cities lost residents, major beneficiaries were cities in other parts of the country, especially the south and west.

Breitbart News reported that data from California’s Public Policy Institute suggested rising costs, economic conditions, and large homeless populations in California’s largest cities are major factors in the state’s population decline. This totaled roughly half a billion people between 2020-2022.

A similar analysis by the Illinois Policy Institute of data from IRS (Internal Revenue Service) revealed that the average Illinoisan who leaves the state in 2019 and 2020 earned more than the average Illinoisan moving to the state.

It was also found that residents fled to Arizona, Florida, Texas and the nearby states of Wisconsin.

According to the report, jobs, housing and tax policy were the main factors that drove residents to move to other states.

Notably, neither Texas or Florida levy a state income tax. Arizona taxes personal income at about half the Illinois rate.
