Anna Paulina Luna, a freshman Republican Representative from Florida, announced on Tuesday that she had secured the necessary votes for passage. On Wednesday afternoon she brought a revised motion of censure to the House. The measure failed last Thursday when 20 Republicans voted it down. Many of them cited the $16 million fine as the main reason. The fine is not included in the new version.
Democrats tried to defeat the motion in a vote on party lines but failed.
Luna, in introducing the resolution, noted that Americans don’t trust Congress. This is partly because of Schiff. She then said:
This man held a position that was regarded as the highest in authority and trust. Adam Schiff, Chair of the House Intelligence Committee launched a full-scale political campaign based on false allegations against the President of the United States. This was done at the expense of all citizens of this country as well as the House of Representatives. Schiff, who had access to information that was not available to many Members of Congress, and even less to the American public, abused this privilege, claiming he knew the truth while keeping Americans in the dark. These lies were so serious they changed the course of America forever.
The entire presentation is sobering, and Schiff’s destruction becomes crystal clear.
Schiff responded with a passionate (and fantasy-filled), but unrepentant, speech on the House Floor directed at Republicans. Schiff called it “a hollow sop to MAGA crowd,” and began:
You honor me with your hatred. This falsehood flatters me. You must condemn those who tell the truth because you are the ones who have spread a lie about the election. I am proud to stand in front of you. Your words confirm that I was successful in defending our democracy, and I thank you.
