Experts Bashing Conservative SCOTUS Justices Have Undisclosed Ties To Democrats

Published on

Recent articles targeting conservative justices on the Supreme Court for alleged ethical violations cited legal and ethics “experts” who had close ties with Democrats, such as former President Bill Clinton and President Biden. These details were not disclosed in the articles.

Kathleen Clark was cited as an “ethics attorney at Washington University in St. Louis” in a ProPublica article titled, “Justice Samuel Alito went on a luxury fishing trip with a GOP billionaire later facing court cases.” The article dealt with disclosure concerns. ”

The publication failed to disclose that Clark was a former lawyer at the Senate Judiciary Committee when Senator Biden was chairman. Clark’s resume can be found on the Washington University School of Law website.

Clark worked for now-President Biden, in 1991. He was leading a campaign that many Republicans believed was a smear on Justice Clarence Thomas. Neither Clark nor ProPublica revealed this information.

Mike Davis, a former senior counsel for the Senate Judiciary Committee as well as the founder of the Article III Project, told Fox News Digital Clark that she should be honest with her past. He insisted that Clark should not be cited as an impartial ethics expert until she disclosed her connections with prominent Democrats.

Davis said that Kathleen Clark, a partisan Democrat lawyer for the then-Senate judges chairman Joe Biden, was involved in the vicious smear against Justice Clarence Thomas during his confirmation hearing. It would be the same as calling ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi an “austere religious scholar” to call Kathleen Clark a neutral ethics expert. ”

Virginia Canter and Amanda Frost, as well as other legal experts quoted on Tuesday in the story about disclosure issues have ties to Democrats. This information was not included in the article.

Canter worked as a White House counselor. State Department records confirm Canter’s status as a “former lawyer for government ethics” who now works at CREW.

Here are some examples of placeholders:

In the biographical record, it was stated that “Ms. Canter served as an associate counsel for President Clinton at the White House where she advised political and Presidential appointees on ethics compliance and financial conflicts of interest. ”

Canter also mentions on her LinkedIn page that she worked as an associate attorney with former President Obama from January 2009 to February 2010. She also donated hundreds of dollars to the campaigns of Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and the Democratic National Committee.

The publication credits Frost as a “judicial ethics expert at the University of Virginia School of Law.” According to her CV, obtained from the University of Virginia School of Law website, Frost has strong ties with Democrats. Ted Kennedy visited the University of Virginia School of Law in the summer 2006.

Frost said in her resume the Senator sought her advice about “legal and political matters concerning voting, immigration, courts and judicial nominations.” ”

Frost has given at least $10,000 to Democratic candidates since 2008, and has been described as a “far-left immigration professor” by Davis.

Fox News Digital asked frost if, in light of her previous work and donations for Kennedy, and her past work with Democrats, she felt that giving her comments to media was appropriate. Frost replied “Yes.” “My comments to the Press, as well as both my testimony and my scholarship about this issue are appropriate.” ”

Frost has worked in the past for both parties and has criticized their ethics in public testimony before Congress and in published academic scholarship. She has also “clerked” a Republican-appointed judge.

Frost defended herself by stating that she “spent 20 years promoting the passing of ethics legislation, which (of course) would apply to all Justices regardless of who nominated them. ”

Frost took part in a Senate Judiciary Hearing titled “Supreme Court Ethics Reform”. This was held earlier this year. She used ProPublica reports as evidence to back up her claim that certain justices, like Thomas, “repeatedly broke laws regulating judicial ethics standards.” ”

In a press release sent to Fox News Digital, ProPublica said: “These professionals are highly qualified, have a reputation of independence, and criticize Democrats and Republicans regularly. ” Many of them have worked for Republican administrations.

Alito took action on the left-wing nonprofit after the ProPublica article was published Tuesday. He accused them of “misleading journalism”.
