Marjorie Taylor Greene’s No-Filter Politics Are Winning Her Fans

Published on

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., is one of my favorites in American politics today. Greene is on my list, even though it’s a short list these days.

Greene is a great teacher.

She is often in the media, both for her battles with other Republicans and for annoying Democrats. Greene and Freedom Caucus will be going separate ways this week.

The Wall Street Journal:

Washington–The split between Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, and the most powerful caucus of conservatives in the House is likely to be sealed after she called her fellow Rep. Lauren Boebert a “little bitch.”

Greene was a fiery hard-right Georgia representative who fit in well with the House Freedom Caucus. Greene and her caucus colleagues have been at odds ever since Greene played a part in helping Kevin McCarthy (R. Calif.) overcome the 14 failed votes he needed to become Speaker.

Greene seems to have the same goal as I do: making McCarthy function in the most conservative manner possible. She isn’t just out there proposing laws to win friends.

All I have observed over the past couple of years is that Greene listens and trusts herself. It doesn’t mean that she won’t hear others; it means that she isn’t desperate to get approval from anyone, which is uncommon in either chamber. The legislative branch of government is populated by people who prefer to get along with everybody at a Beltway Happy Hour than do anything meaningful for the Republic while at work.

Greene’s view on her split from the Freedom Caucus

Greene said she enjoyed being a “free agent” more than her expulsion from the caucus. She stated that she shared values with the Freedom Caucus but “was interested in getting things done and not doing things to just disrupt and fight the leadership.” This is a big difference.

I must say that I admire and love the Freedom Caucus for what it does. Greene has a point. Freedom Caucus worked hard to get concessions to allow them to put McCarthy’s feet on fire. It’s a big difference between dousing his feet in gasoline and holding them to the flames just to hear him yell.

Greene as well as the Freedom Caucus are both going to be fine. They don’t need each other. Greene is likely to be in agreement with her former colleagues from the caucus more often than not. The Freedom Caucus voted in favor of the Greene-sponsored Amendment mentioned above, even though the vote came just one day after their announcement about parting ways.

Here are some things I love about Rep. Greene. She has no filter. She sticks to her beliefs. And — this is my favorite — she doesn’t care who she offends. Many conservative colleagues and friends find that offensive. She’s a good politician, but some wish she would tone it down. To be honest, I hear a lot of what I heard about Trump.

Greene’s method of operation is my favorite because I’m sick of polite Republicans. In my four decades of conservative activism, I have seen polite Republicans repeatedly roll over and let the Democrats bring the United States of America close to extinction. The Democrats are just as responsible for our current mess as any progressive in the Democratic Party.

The GOP has a choice to make at this crucial moment. It can either join forces with Notorious MTG and the Freedom Caucus (or the Romney Squish faction of the GOP) or follow them off the cliff.

There’s probably no beer in oblivion, so Notorious MTG is it for me.
