Is Media Matters about to finally face some real, measurable pushback for decades of smear marketing? Elon Musk says that the answer is “yes” and it will happen very soon.
The billionaire announced Friday that Media Matters would be sued as soon as the courts opened on Monday over a “study” they conducted and published involving advertisements on X.

Media Matters’ document above states that they “proved” that X placed advertisements on allegedly hateful conduct. It is implied that advertisers endorse whatever content they place their ads next to. They should therefore not run ads for X, lest they are negatively associated.
The left has played this game for centuries. Since the dawn of the Information Age, the targeting of advertisers to suppress free speech is a practice that has only intensified in the past decade. Over the years, everyone from Rush Limbaugh and Tucker Carlson has been targeted. The tactic often works, which has emboldened groups like Media Matters.
Musk claims that Media Matters manipulated the system to fabricate the results of their “study”, with the intention of scaring away advertisers under false pretenses. Media Matters created an account, curated which accounts it followed and what ads it saw, and likely blocked most advertisers to increase their chances of obtaining a specific set of companies that they wanted to target. Then, they refreshed the timeline of the account until they had the screenshots that they needed for their narrative.
If this is what happened, the billionaire could be on a path to a legal victory. Most conservatives are sure to cheer him on. Media Matters, a terrible and deceptive group, routinely removes right-leaning sources of news from context to give their comments a false impression. As always, the goal is to destroy these news outlets, or often podcasters, by attacking their revenue-generating abilities. It is insidious and goes against American ideals.
It would be great if Media Matters was taken down.
