Minnesota AG Keith Ellison Under Fire: Exposed Ignorance on Glocks and Product Liability

Published on

All anti-gun Democrats seem to share one common trait: they know nothing about firearms. Keith Ellison, Minnesota’s Attorney General, is a good example. He believes that a Glock gun can be modified so it fires 1,200 rounds per second. Yes, really.

This statement is wrong in a few ways.

First: 1,200 rounds per minute? Glocks can’t shoot that fast. The M134, the minigun of film fame, can fire between 2,000 and 6,000 rounds per second, with a battery of rotating barrels powered by an electric motor.

Second: Even though we admit that these guns are capable of being modified, the rate at which they fire is not relevant, Attorney General Ellison wants Glock to answer for any illegal modifications to their legal product. It would be like charging Chevrolet for a crime just because someone modified one of its cars illegally and used it to rob banks.

Ellison, as is his habit when it comes to guns, made up that part. While initially some of these “parts kits” were imported directly from China, 3D printing plans are widely available. And no matter how AG Ellison attempts to blame Glock for this, toothpaste will not be going back into the tube.

This isn’t even the first time AG Ellison tried to do this.

Ellison, like many other big-city district attorneys, seems to be determined to place the blame for crime elsewhere than where it should — with criminals. This would mean prosecuting criminals, something that blue-state and blue-city prosecutors and AGs are reluctant to do. They also seem to not understand that the real problem is always the criminal, and never the tool.

Keith Ellison is like many other blue-state officials who are supposed to be responsible for prosecuting crimes. He seems to want nothing to do with criminals. Ellison wants Glock to be blamed for criminals who illegally modify guns. He wants auto companies to be blamed for making their product too easy to steal.

Minnesotans deserve better. As the saying goes, the people of Minnesota are getting exactly the government that they voted for.
