Remember the time when illegal immigrants clashed with National Guard troops at El Paso in Texas, causing a riot? Soon after the incident, they were arrested and charged. At least some of the individuals seemed to be facing serious jail time.
It’s now 2024 and everything makes no sense.
A judge ordered their release after deciding to give these people a generous Easter president. Why? The district attorney’s office wasn’t prepared to conduct detention hearings.
On Easter Sunday, an El Paso magistrate ordered the release of migrants accused of a “border riot” that occurred when National Guard troops were overwhelmed by a stampede along the Rio Grande.
Officials from the court noted that migrants who are not documented will remain in jail if a federal hold on immigration prevents their release.
On Sunday, March 31st, Presiding Magistrate Humberto Judge Acosta delivered his decision during an online teleconference hearing. He accused the El Paso District Attorney’s Office that it was not prepared to conduct detention hearings on each defendant. A hearing for additional defendants will be held on Monday.
Acosta’s order stated, “All the cases of rioting involvement will be released by the court on their recognizance.”
On March 21, 2024, a group of over 300 illegal immigrants attempted to rush the border fence to gain entry to the country. Dozens of these individuals tore away the razor wire that had been installed to discourage illegal immigrants from entering the country.

Greg Abbott, the Governor of Texas, noted that “the surge today in El Paso is the direct result of President Biden’s unsustainable chaos on the border.” Greg Abbott stated, “The surge in El Paso today is the direct consequence of the unsustainable chaos President Biden unleashed at the border.”
Why would illegal immigrants not do so if they can physically assault National Guard members without even a slap? This incident may encourage more people to attempt to cross the southern border.
There is another side to this story.
What would you expect to happen if we, as regular people, had brazenly clashed during a riot with members of the National Guard? We’d be put in a cage quicker than Joe Biden can finish an ice cream cone.
People who have rioted and used violence to attack the National Guard at the border are treated better than Americans walking around the Capitol Building on January 6, 2021. This reveals an ugly truth that we should not ignore: some government officials are willing to punish American citizens more than they would foreigners for crimes.
