There have been several problems with the Secret Service’s coverage of the Butler rally in Pennsylvania that culminated in an attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump. In the shooting, Corey Comperatore, a firefighter from Pennsylvania was killed and two Trump supporters were injured.
Townhall reported that the Secret Service admitted to Townhall on Saturday that it had refused requests for resources from the Trump Detail for the past two years. However, on July 15, the Secret Service said that no resources were denied.
The Secret Service admitted on Saturday that they had refused requests from former President Donald J. Trump’s security detail for federal resources in the two years leading up to the attempted assassination of Trump last week. This is a change from previous statements made by the agency, which denied that such requests were rejected.
The Secret Service was accused by Republicans and anonymous law-enforcement officials of refusing to provide additional agents for Mr. Trump’s rallies almost immediately after the gunman fired at him from a nearby roofed warehouse while he spoke during a rally at Butler, Pa.
Last Sunday, a day after the shooting, Anthony Guglielmi said that it was untrue that a former president’s team member had requested more resources, and those requests were rejected.
Guglielmi admitted on Saturday that the Secret Service has declined some requests from Mr. Trump for federal security resources. Two sources briefed on the matter who requested anonymity as they weren’t authorized to speak publically confirmed that the Trump Campaign had sought additional resources during the majority of the time Mr. Trump was out of office. Guglielmi stated that the denied requests for more resources did not pertain to the Butler rally.
This is a serious problem. Many people, including Rep. Mike Waltz(R-FL), have brought this up.
There’s even more shocking news. Susan Crabtree of RealClearPolitics reported that resources were allocated to Jill Biden’s visit in Pittsburgh instead of the Butler rally. Crabtree has added more details.
According to emails obtained by RealClearPolitics, after claiming that they had increased security for former President Donald Trump due to an Iranian plot to kill him, the Secret Service only provided three agency personnel to “post-stand” Trump’s fateful Pennsylvania rally on July 13, compared with the 12 post-standers Jill Biden was given at a nearby Pittsburgh dinner that evening.
Secret Service agents are usually assigned to inner perimeter posts of events. Agents from local Secret Service offices are assigned to monitor the middle perimeter. They are assigned as “post standers” and they are responsible for specific security areas.
Chuck Grassley, R-IA, demands answers from the Secret Service Director Kim Cheatle ahead of Monday’s House Oversight Committee meeting where lawmakers will be questioning him. He also wants a list of all those who provided security. He cited emails that showed there were only three post-standers assigned to Trump and 12 to Jill Biden.
That’s insane. A former president is under a lot of threat, mostly because the Democrats have demonized him. It was true that there was a threat from Iran. If this report is accurate, they still gave Jill more information.
It’s a huge problem. The way they handle Trump’s safety needs to be improved immediately. Cheatle must resign. But beyond that, everything that happened here needs to be exposed, and people need to be held accountable.
