In her civil case against Conor McGregor, a woman claimed that the UFC star had put her in a chokehold and then raped her in an Irish hotel back in 2018.
British media reported that Nikita Hand, a Dublin resident who was attacked in a penthouse in Dublin by an Irish fighter, testified at Dublin’s High Court. She said she thought she would die after the Irish fighter choked and pinned her on a bed.
The former hairdresser who filed a civil sexual abuse suit told jurors that she bit the mixed-martial arts fighter to try and fend him away.
“I tried to fight as hard as I could.” The woman was visibly shaken, and she asked for breaks to gather herself.
“I was frozen and couldn’t breathe or move. I kept staring at the bedpost, thinking about my daughter.” ‘I kept thinking that I was going to die before I saw my daughter again.”
Hand testified to the BBC that she assured her alleged abuser that she would not speak about what happened to prevent him from hurting her again. She also added that the mixed-martial arts star compared her choking to his experience taping out in the octagon.
A mother of one has filed a lawsuit against McGregor and James Lawrence for alleged sexual assault on December 9, 2018.
According to AP News, a spokesperson for McGregor denied the accusations, saying Irish police investigated the alleged attack and declined to file criminal charges in 2020.
BBC reported that McGregor’s attorneys argued that the sexual encounter had been consensual, and she was trying to extort McGregor.
Hand, who brought her civil case in 2021 told the court that she was “disappointed” and “upset” that Irish Police failed to prosecute either man, complaining that she had been treated unfairly because the alleged abuser is a celebrity.
Josh Gordon, Hand’s lawyer, claimed that Hand and McGregor knew each other because they grew up together, spoke on social media, and had mutual friends, before meeting at Beacon Hotel the night of the alleged assault.
Hand told jurors that the alleged assault left her with bruises along her wrists and hands, a scratch on her chest, and tenderness in her neck. She also said she has been unable to work due to mental health issues.
McGregor is a Dubliner and one of the highest-paid athletes in the world. He has been involved with a number of police cases over the years.
A Dublin court fined him in 2019 for punching a man over the head at a Dublin bar, an incident that became a viral video.
In 2019, he settled a case over allegations that he had grabbed and smashed a phone belonging to someone filming him in front of a Miami Hotel. In 2018, he avoided jail after he threw metal hand trucks at a bus in Brooklyn, following a press event.
The civil case will continue for the next two weeks.
