Jack Smith, Special Counsel for the Justice Department, has moved to dismiss federal criminal charges against Donald Trump. He argues that it’s against Justice Department policy to pursue criminal charges against a president-elect.
Democrats are already weeping and gnashing teeth about this development, and we know why.
The D.C. case of election interference was dismissed by Judge Tanya Chutkan, a move that is a disappointing end to efforts to use criminal justice to stop Trump from winning in 2024. Democrats have criticized the decision and questioned how long it took for the Justice Department to prosecute and convict the president-elect.
Adam Schiff, a California Democratic Representative, expressed his disappointment at X. He said, “The Justice Dept. and the court system failed in upholding the principle that nobody is above the laws” and claimed the DOJ delayed “the progress of the case.”
The Justice Dept and the court system failed to uphold the principle that no one is above the law.
DOJ by neglecting to promptly investigate the events of Jan 6, and the courts by willfully delaying progress of the case and providing immunity.
The public deserved better.

Ankush Khardori, a former federal prosecutor, also complained about the slow pace in which the DOJ prosecution was proceeding. He said, “There are many different reasons for the delay or failure to resolve, at least with the 2020 election case.” One of these is the inexcusable delay to seriously investigate Trump.
Khardori ridiculed Supreme Court rulings on presidential immunity. The court, he said, “seemed hell-bent to protect Trump at any cost.”
Jeff Robbins is a former Senate investigator who told The Hill, “Both the procedure and the outcome were disgraceful, and likely do irreparable damage to our democracy.”
Others, however, argued that Smith’s appointment to the position of special prosecutor had accelerated the cases brought against Trump. They also argued that Smith had moved quickly in the case of the classified documents. It was still not fast enough to stop Trump from winning the election. This is the main reason that Democrats are upset.
The whole purpose of the federal, state, and local indictments was to influence the outcome 2024 elections. This is known by all, even those who supported the legal process.
Bottom line, Democrats were terrified that Orange Man What is Bad(tm), would win a 2nd term in the White House. We now know that their fears are well-founded. Leftists knew that either Vice President Kamala or President Joe Biden would be unlikely to defeat Trump, given their inability to solve any of the problems facing the country since taking office.
Instead of arguing their case with the American public, the decision was made to weaponize the government against him. They were wrong.
Even the shrill cries that Trump was a fascist who undermined democracy have waned now that the election is over. It’s almost like they never believed it at all.
