The New York Times reported that President-elect Donald Trump announced several cabinet appointments on Monday. According to them, he will appoint Senator Marco Rubio (RFL) as Secretary of State.
The outlet reported that:
Three people who are familiar with Mr. Trump’s thinking have said that he is likely to nominate Senator Marco Rubio from Florida as his Secretary of State. This comes as Mr. Trump works quickly to fill out his national security and foreign policy team.
The people who spoke to me said that Mr. Trump may still change his mind, but he appeared to be settled on Mr. Rubio. He also considered Mr. Rubio when deciding his running mate for this year.
Rubio has been a senator since 2010 and ran for president in 2016. Rubio was Trump’s running mate shortlist this year and remained a loyal surrogate after being rejected.
Rubio stated last week that the war in Ukraine has reached a standstill and that it’s “time for some common sense here.”
Rubio said:
If you ask the Biden Administration, they won’t say it publicly but will admit that we are funding a standstill. The Ukrainians are brave and strong for standing up to Russia. But at the end of it all, we’re funding a stalemate.
This does not mean we should celebrate or be excited about what Vladimir Putin has done, but there must also be some common sense here. Right now, what we’re funding is a deadlock that costs lives. With all the problems that they face, it’s going to take 100 years for them to rebuild.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis will nominate Rubio’s replacement if he is ultimately appointed and confirmed.
