According to The Washington Post, First Lady Jill Biden claimed that Melania Trump, the incoming first lady, declined her invitation to tea.
Biden invited the first lady to tea at the White House, as is customary for the incoming and departing first ladies during presidential transitions.
The Post published an extensive profile of the incoming first lady on Wednesday.
Biden said in an interview on Jan. 5 that she had followed up with Melania Trump by writing a letter, which she then passed to President-elect Trump at the Notre Dame reopening ceremony.
According to the Post, Biden said he “congratulated” the woman and offered her help.
Melania Trump did not thank Biden until last week at the funeral of former President Carter when they briefly spoke.
The first lady isn’t the only one who has abandoned a tradition.
Michelle Obama, the former first lady of the United States, will not attend next week’s inauguration. She also skipped Carter’s funeral, where she would have been seated right next to the new president.
