Ramaswamy Announces Bid for Ohio Governor

Two sources confirmed Friday that Vivek Ramaswamy plans to run as governor of Ohio. He is the co-chair of Donald Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency.

In 2026, the Ohio Governor’s office will be open for grabs. Mike DeWine’s (R) term is limited.

Ramaswamy, according to one source, planned to announce his bid for governor after he “got accomplishments” at DOGE.

The Washington Post broke the story first. The Post reports that Ramaswamy wants to announce his gubernatorial candidacy after DeWine decides who will fill JD Vance’s Senate seat, which is now vacant as the Vice President-elect leaves the upper chamber. DeWine will likely name the Lt. Governor, even though Ramaswamy is reported to have been considered. Jon Husted will fill the position.

Ramaswamy, a biotech entrepreneur, is a former White House candidate who has been an ally to the president-elect for many years. Ramaswamy was mentioned in the discussion of potential candidates for Trump’s ticket. He has also called Trump “the greatest president of the 21st Century.”

Ramaswamy, along with fellow tech mogul Elon Motsek, was chosen by Trump to lead DOGE. This advisory group is focused on reducing federal spending. Trump indicated that DOGE should finish its work by mid-2026. This could give Ramaswamy time to run for office.

Ramaswamy’s second source said that the run will only happen after the DOGE has achieved some victories for the President and the American People.
