Secretary of State Marco Rubio Declares Himself ‘Acting Director’ of USAID

After the DOGE exposed the United States Agency for International Development as the globalist slush fund that it was, Secretary of States Marco Rubio announced he would be the “Acting director” of the agency.

Hashtag: WINNING.

Rubio responded to media questions on a diplomatic visit to El Salvador about his plans for USAID. Fox News reported that Rubio replied:

REPORTER: The money USAID spends is often criticized for being charitable. I believe you used the word welfare or charity. But defenders of USAID, and even some members in Congress, say that it’s done to promote stability or buy goodwill abroad. What is your response to this? Do you believe USAID is doing a great deal of this work, or are you unhappy with certain spending?

RUBIO: My issue is that there are things we do through USAID we should and will continue to do. All they have to do is align with the US foreign policy and national interest. USAID’s attitude over the years has been that “we are independent from the national interests.” We fund programs regardless of whether they are aligned or unaligned with foreign policy. This is absurd, these are tax dollars. Each dollar we spend on foreign aid must be aligned and in support of the national interests and foreign policy and the United States. This is not about terminating USAID’s programs per se. There are some things it does that are excellent, and others that we are very concerned about. It’s the way they operate as an organization.

After refusing to comply with DOGE supervision, two USAID officials have been placed on administrative leave. Rubio referred to this rogue mentality within the agency, and how he intended to deal with it.

The State Department is supposed to give them policy direction. They don’t. They are completely uncooperative and do not follow policy directions. You ask questions and try to find out what this program does, who gets the money, and why this was funded. Why are you doing it? Why don’t you coordinate with the State Department or the Embassy?

Their attitude is, we don’t have to answer to you because we’re independent. We answer to no one. Well, that is not true. We will no longer allow it.

Rubio explained in the video that his frustrations with USAID go back to his days in Congress. He also said that USAID’s history has been one of disaffection with American foreign policy and national interests. Rubio has appointed himself Acting Director and delegated the authority to an intermediary to perform the oversight.
