Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke out on Sunday regarding the current status of a security deal with Syria. Despite certain advancements, he emphasized that a final agreement is not within immediate reach.

Netanyahu highlighted the significance of their triumph against Hezbollah in Lebanon, which, according to him, has paved the way for potential peace with northern neighbors. “We are holding talks with the Syrians; there is some progress, but there is still a way to go,” he stated. He further indicated that the ongoing discussions and contacts with Lebanon owe their existence to decisive victories on the northern front, amongst others.
Syria’s President Ahmed al-Sharaa spoke on Wednesday about the continuing dialogue with Israel. He proposed that a security pact between the two nations could yield results “in the coming days.” He emphasized that such a pact is a “necessity” and that it must respect Syria’s airspace and territorial unity under the observation of the United Nations.
Syria and Israel are engaging in negotiations to reach an agreement that Damascus hopes will secure a halt to Israeli airstrikes and the withdrawal of Israeli troops from southern Syria.
