Senator Rand Paul, a Republican from Kentucky, is intensifying efforts to summon Dr. Anthony Fauci before Congress. The Senator asserts that newly unearthed emails indicate that Dr. Fauci, the former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, instructed the deletion of certain documents. This, according to Senator Paul, contradicts Dr. Fauci’s previous testimony under oath.
Senator Paul dispatched a letter to Dr. Fauci this Tuesday. This development follows earlier reports that the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee procured documents demonstrating Fauci’s directive to NIH employees to obliterate specific emails on two separate occasions.
The Senator’s letter to Dr. Fauci posits his direct involvement in endeavors to conceal information pertinent to the Committee’s investigation. It further alleges that such actions appear to contradict Dr. Fauci’s previous testimony before Congress. The crux of the contention lies in Dr. Fauci’s testimony from June 2024 before the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic, where he denied deleting official work records or communications relating to the Wuhan lab or the origins of the COVID-19 virus.

Senator Paul references two specific emails that he claims contradict Dr. Fauci’s testimony. In one instance, Dr. Fauci purportedly instructed then-NIH Director Dr. Francis Collins to delete an email post-reading on February 2, 2020. In another email, dated July 20, 2020, Dr. Fauci allegedly requested that an NIH employee delete an email after reading.
According to reliable sources, the Senator’s letter requests Dr. Fauci’s appearance before year’s end, offering dates spanning the final three months of the year.
This is not Senator Paul’s first accusation against Dr. Fauci. In July last year, he called on the Justice Department to investigate Dr. Fauci’s 2021 testimony before Congress in which he refuted the NIH’s funding of gain-of-function research in Wuhan. Senator Paul also contests a preemptive pardon granted to Dr. Fauci by former President Joe Biden.
The facts involve Senator Paul’s earlier referral of Dr. Fauci to the Department of Justice for allegedly perjuring himself before Congress. He claims that Dr. Fauci’s own emails directly contradict his sworn testimony.
