Leftist Firebrand Cori Bush Eyes Congressional Seat

Former Representative Cori Bush has just announced she’s running for Congress again.

Let’s say you’re a progressive politician who just lost your primary race by five points. Let’s say you were soundly rejected by your constituents, who chose a more moderate Democrat. A rational person might take that as a sign to step back and reassess. But no, not in today’s Democratic Party.

Cori Bush, who initially won her seat in 2020 by defeating 20-year incumbent Lacy Clay, was decisively defeated in the August 2024 primary by Wesley Bell, 51% to 46%.

Despite this clear electoral rejection, Bush has now decided that voters somehow didn’t really mean what they said at the ballot box. This is, quite frankly, a perfect encapsulation of the modern left’s approach to democracy – they’re all for it until the results don’t go their way.

If you lose an election, and the voters explicitly choose someone else, what makes you think those same voters will suddenly change their minds? This isn’t just about Bush – it’s about a broader pattern we’re seeing on the left where electoral defeats are treated as temporary setbacks rather than the will of the people.

Even Congressman Bell’s spokesman, Jordan Blase, stated it plainly: Bush was “fired” by voters. Bell himself put it succinctly on X, noting that “Missouri voters already rendered their verdict when they voted her out of office last year and chose to move on.” These aren’t complicated concepts, folks.

In America, anyone can run for office. That’s their right. But there’s a difference between having the right to do something and it being the right thing to do. This is precisely the kind of political self-indulgence that demonstrates why the progressive left continues to alienate mainstream voters.

Bush’s announcement isn’t about serving her former constituents – it’s about serving her own political ambitions. If it were about the voters, she would respect their decision in 2024. Instead, we’re watching yet another example of the left’s inability to accept electoral outcomes they don’t like.

Congressman Bell is actually doing what representatives are supposed to do – representing. He’s “focused on making life better for his constituents,” as his office stated, rather than plotting his next political move.

So here’s the bottom line: When voters speak clearly at the ballot box, as they did in August 2024, politicians should listen. But apparently, in the world of progressive politics, electoral defeats are just temporary inconveniences to be overcome through sheer force of will. This, ladies and gentlemen, is exactly why we need to continue fighting for conservative principles and respect for democratic outcomes.
