Marco Rubio doesn’t waste time with half measures. The Secretary of State just revoked the legal permanent resident status of two Iranian nationals who thought they could live the high life in Los Angeles while cheerleading for a terrorist regime. Hamideh Soleimani Afshar and her daughter are now sitting in ICE custody, waiting for their one-way trip out of the country.

Here’s what makes this story so infuriating. These weren’t just random immigrants who overstayed a visa. Afshar is the niece of Qasem Soleimani, the Iranian general who had American blood on his hands before President Trump ordered the strike that took him out in 2020. And while enjoying all the freedoms and luxuries that America offers, she was actively promoting Iranian regime propaganda on social media. She celebrated attacks on American soldiers. She praised Iran’s Supreme Leader. She called the United States the “Great Satan.”

Let that sink in for a moment. This woman held a green card, which means she had legal permission to live and work here permanently. She was posting photos of her lavish lifestyle in LA on Instagram while simultaneously voicing support for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, a designated terrorist organization. The audacity is breathtaking.

You know what’s even more remarkable? How quickly Rubio moved once the evidence became clear. The State Department’s press release laid out the facts without apology. Afshar wasn’t just passively connected to the Iranian regime through family ties. She was an active propagandist, using American freedoms to attack America itself.

This gets to the heart of something conservatives have been saying for years. Immigration isn’t just about numbers or economic impact. It’s about values and allegiance. You can’t build a strong nation when you allow people to exploit your generosity while working against your interests. That’s not xenophobia or closed-mindedness. That’s common sense.

The Trump administration’s approach here represents a fundamental shift from the previous decades of immigration policy. For too long, we’ve operated under the assumption that once someone gets a green card, they’re essentially untouchable unless they commit a serious crime. But supporting terrorism is a serious crime. Celebrating attacks on American troops should disqualify you from living here, full stop.

Critics will probably call this heavy-handed or argue about due process. But Rubio’s X post made the reasoning crystal clear. The evidence came from Afshar’s own social media activity and press reporting. She wasn’t hiding her views. She was broadcasting them proudly, apparently confident that American tolerance had no limits.

Well, it does have limits. And those limits should include not harboring people who actively support regimes that want to destroy us. The Iranian government isn’t some abstract geopolitical rival. It funds Hezbollah and Hamas. It chants “Death to America” in its parliament. It takes hostages and builds nuclear weapons while its people starve.

Afshar’s recently deleted Instagram account told the whole story. Lavish parties, expensive outfits, all the trappings of Western prosperity, mixed with posts praising the same regime that denies basic freedoms to Iranian women. The hypocrisy is almost too perfect.

This case sets a precedent that needed setting. If you come to America, you don’t get to hedge your bets. You don’t get to enjoy the benefits of freedom while championing tyranny. The social contract works both ways. We offer opportunity and protection. You offer loyalty and respect for our values.

Rubio’s final statement captured it perfectly. The Trump administration won’t allow America to become a home for foreign nationals who support anti-American terrorist regimes. That’s not controversial. That’s leadership.
