Let’s get something straight right off the bat. When a political candidate tells you she wants to roll back tax breaks that put money in your pocket, believe her. Stefany Shaheen just did exactly that, and New Hampshire families should be paying attention.
The daughter of Senator Jeanne Shaheen announced this week that if elected to Congress, she’ll work to reverse Republican tax reductions. Not reform them. Not adjust them. Roll them back entirely. We’re talking about a 20 percent tax increase for New Hampshire families. We’re talking about bringing back taxes on tips, overtime, and Social Security. You know, the things working people actually rely on to make ends meet.
“We’ve got to roll back these tax breaks,” Shaheen declared with the kind of confidence that only comes from never having to worry about a tight budget. This isn’t some ambiguous policy position buried in a campaign document. She said it out loud, on the record, apparently convinced this is what voters want to hear.
The irony here is thick enough to cut with a knife. Silver Spoon Stefany, as she’s being called by critics, built her entire professional life on a foundation her mother constructed. When she worked as chief strategy officer for Advanced Regenerative Manufacturing, the organization won 44 million dollars in federal funding. Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo specifically credited Senator Shaheen’s persistent advocacy for making it happen. What a convenient coincidence.
Before that, Stefany’s company Good Measures received an $890,000 Paycheck Protection Program loan during the first round of pandemic relief. The loan was forgiven, naturally. Nothing says understanding the struggles of everyday Americans quite like securing nearly a million dollars in taxpayer money while simultaneously planning to raise their taxes later.
Her track record on the Portsmouth City Council tells you everything you need to know about her governing philosophy. She proposed increasing hourly parking fees by 25 percent. She voted for Portsmouth’s first budget exceeding 100 million dollars, which included property tax increases and yet more parking fee hikes. Parking fees might sound trivial until you’re the person paying them every single day just to go to work.
The political nepotism angle isn’t just optics either. Stefany’s congressional campaign has pulled in over $600,000 from her mother’s donor network. Senator Shaheen has directly campaigned for her daughter, leveraging decades of political connections to give her kid a head start most candidates can only dream about. One headline described it perfectly: “Stefany Shaheen Has Been Handed Everything by Her Mom. Now She Wants a Promotion to Congress.”
Here’s what really gets under my skin though. When asked repeatedly in October about condemning political violence, Shaheen declined. Not once but multiple times. She told the questioner “I hope you have a great night” and walked away. This came less than a month after the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk and a shooting at an ICE facility in Dallas. These weren’t hypothetical questions about abstract principles. They were direct, simple questions about whether murdering someone over politics is wrong.
She couldn’t say it. Wouldn’t say it. Just kept walking.
Her mother has the same problem. Back in 2015, Senator Jeanne Shaheen defended Hillary Clinton after Clinton laughed when a man said he wanted to strangle Carly Fiorina whenever he saw her on television. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, as they say.
The NRCC’s Maureen O’Toole nailed it when she said Granite Staters deserve a fighter, not a nepo baby. New Hampshire is a state that values self reliance, hard work, and keeping government out of people’s wallets. Stefany Shaheen represents the opposite of those values. She’s promising to reach deeper into your paycheck while benefiting from a political dynasty that’s already given her more advantages than most people see in a lifetime.
This race matters because it reveals something fundamental about how the Democratic Party views taxpayers. They see your money as theirs, temporarily in your possession until they can figure out how to reclaim it. When someone tells you they want to roll back tax breaks, they’re really saying they think you’re keeping too much of what you earned. They think they can spend it better than you can.
New Hampshire families work hard for every dollar. They deserve representatives who understand that those dollars belong to them, not to Washington bureaucrats with grand plans for redistribution. Stefany Shaheen isn’t that representative. She never has been, and she never will be.
