Hannah-Jones Says Parents Shouldn’t Decide What’s Being Taught In Schools

Professor Nikole Hannah Jones, the creator of the 1619 Project, stated Sunday on NBC’s Meet the Press that parents shouldn’t be in control of what is taught at schools.

Hannah-Jones stated, “I don’t really get this idea that parents should determine what’s being taught.” I am not a professional educator. I do not have a degree either in science or social studies. We send our children to school because we want them taught by experts in their subject. That is not my job.

Referencing former Virginia Gov. Hannah-Jones referred to Terry McAuliffe as “When the governor, or the candidate, said he didn’t believe parents should have the final say on what’s taught in school,” but Hannah-Jones stated, “This is why we send children to school and not home school. These are the professional educators who can teach social studies, history, literature, and science. That should be left to educators, I believe. While we all should have our say, school isn’t about confirming our worldview. Schools should encourage us to ask questions. Schools should teach us to question, not to think.
