After fierce opposition that Zuckerberg’s 2020 contributions had tilted the election’s outcome in favor of President Biden, a representative from Mark Zuckerberg confirmed that the Facebook CEO would not make another multimillion-dollar donation to aid this year’s elections.
“As Mark & Priscilla have made clear, their election infrastructure donation to ensure that Americans could vote at the peak of the pandemic was a once-off donation due to the unprecedented nature the crisis,” Ben LaBolt (a spokesperson for Zuckerberg) said. They don’t plan to repeat that donation.
Before the 2020 election, Zuckerberg and Chan donated at most $350 million to Center for Technology and Civic Life. This money was distributed to local elections offices. According to the nonprofit, this year it will launch a new program called the U.S. Alliance for Election Excellence.
According to the Associated Press, the program, which costs $80-million and will last five years, is designed to establish a network of thousands of local election officials across the country. They can apply for assistance to improve their technology, according to the Associated Press.
“Unfortunately, many local election departments have limited capacity or training due to years of underinvestment. Tiana Epps Johnson, CTCL’s executive Director, stated that the U.S. Alliance for Election Excellence brings together world-class partners to ensure local election officials don’t have to do it all alone.
Conservatives have attacked Zuckerberg’s and Chan’s donations ahead of 2020 as aiding President Biden to win the presidency election.
Mollie Hemingway is the editor-in-chief at The Federalist. She stated that while it was good that Zuckerberg wouldn’t interfere in the elections this year, he’s not necessarily the only left-wing tech mogul who can fund these left-wing organizations.
She continued, “The left-wing Center for Technology and Civic Life run by Obama political veterans has already admitted that it plans to continue its takeover government election offices in swing state using the same grant model it used with Zuckerberg funding for 2020.” These grants allowed these left-wing activists, to essentially control the entire Democrat-Get-Out-The Vote operation from within the government. States that care about electoral integrity must protect their systems against the control of the most powerful and wealthy people in the world.
Hemingway has been vocal in his condemnation of Zuckerberg’s donations. Hemingway told Fox News’ Tucker Carlson, October, that “This is crazy that this was allowed to happen.”
“So he [Zuckerberg] spent about as much money to run our 2020 elections as the federal government.” She gave $419 million to two left-wing organizations, which then funneled the money primarily towards Democrat counties in swing state,” she stated, highlighting that the donations totalled more than $400 million.
She said that it allowed “this army left-wing people” to enter and handle everything.
Eight GOP-controlled states have passed laws prohibiting private donations to election offices as a result of Zuckerberg’s donations. This includes Florida.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis stated, “We ban Zuckerbucks.” Ron DeSantis stated this in October 2021.
