Taylor Swift Edits Video for New Song After Fat Activists Accuse Her of Fatphobia

Published on

After being accused by fat positivity activists of fatphobia, Taylor Swift made the video for her latest song.

In the scene where she sings in “Anti-Hero,” the singer is seen weighing herself and looking at the display, which reads “fat.”

The video and song were meant to be a comment on how the wrong mindset can lead to self-destructive behaviors. However, many people on social media were offended and outraged by the scene.

“Taylor Swift’s music clip, in which she looks down at the scale that says “fat”, is an s ****y method to describe her struggles with body image. It’s not necessary to reiterate that fat people are everyone’s worst nightmare to look just like us,” one tweet had over 43k likes.

“The Taylor swift fat discourse kills me. Ppl who claim it is not harmful is just plain stupid. My poor 13-year-old self would have wept if she had stood in front of a scale and seen a thin blonde woman. What hope did I have if she was fat? Another commenter agreed.

“I feel like Taylor Swift’s defense is strengthened by the fact that every person who defends her is white and thin. Nobody has ever experienced real fatphobia. Only thin girls who “feel fat sometimes” and are now experts, read another critical tweet.

To appease the crowd, the video was edited to remove the “fat” scene, but the entire scene remained. Variety confirmed that the scene had been removed from Apple Music’s music video and also from YouTube.

Other activists also criticized the scene after it was removed.

“Taylor Swift deleted an important part from a music video that made people uncomfortable, and it pisses off me the f***. She wasn’t being fatphobic. It was a commentary on the unrealistic beauty standards in the music industry. “Why isn’t everyone media-literate?” Read one tweet.

“As someone who has been overweight all my life, I believe that the Anti-Hero video was edited to remove the word “fat” on a scale. This tweet had over 93k followers.

Swift’s “Midnights”, despite all the online fat-shaming, broke the Spotify record for the most Spotify streams in one day in history.

“How did you guys do something so mind-blowing? Do you mean what happened just now? She replied, “Yes!”
