Joe Biden is reportedly not optimistic about a second presidential term. His attorney general announced on Saturday a new program to support Red Flag laws in America. This will continue long after Biden leaves the White House.
Congressman Thomas Massie raised concerns, questioning the sudden emergence of a Federal Red Flag center, which he stated was not authorized. His remarks came just hours after the omnibus bill passed.

At this point, we don’t even know that a similar program was included in the omnibus legislation, partly because there were so many people trying to access the website and it was down. Nobody read the bill and alerted Americans. Massie says that Congress did not approve this.
The Firearms Policy Coalition thinks that the foundations for this “resource center” were approved by the “2022 Bipartisan “Safer Communities Act.”

In a press statement, the DOJ states that the Red Flag Resource Center will “support state, local governments, and law enforcement in their efforts in implementing ERPO programs tailored to local needs and sharing resources and promising practice with the field.”
It’s the same thing that politicians say when they “pilot” a new program, and then it becomes permanently funded.
It is not a website that was created in a few days. According to a Justice Department release, this Red Flag Law website was a planned project for many years judging from the way it appears and the amount of funding that it has allocated to launch it.
The Office of Justice Programs of the Justice Department awarded $238,000,000 to the states, territories, and the District of Columbia in 2023 under the Byrne State Crisis Intervention Program. This program was created by the Bipartisan Safety Communities Act to assist jurisdictions with crisis intervention strategies including ERPO programs. OJP also awarded $4 million for training and technical assistance as part of ByrneSCIP. This included $2 million awarded to the Johns Hopkins Center for Gun Violence Solutions for the establishment of the ERPO Resource Center.
[…] States, local governments, and law enforcement will be able to access critical information through the Center’s newly launched website. This will help them to better reduce gun homicides.

We’re not sure if this “spying claim” is true, but based on DOJ’s lawless behavior in spying, we’ll assume that she has a valid point.
Red Flag laws exist in 21 states. The civil procedure does not provide due process for American citizens. It removes firearms from those who are deemed to be a danger to themselves or others. The decision is made by other people, such as “stakeholders”, who are addressed helpfully on this website.
The goal of the program is to turn gun confiscation based on a third-party complaint, secretly heard by a court, into a national initiative.
The DOJ says it is interested in “saving lives”, but Red Flag laws, which are in less than half of the states, violate constitutional rights to remove guns.
Given the fact that we now apparently have a “National Red Flag Center” created out of nowhere by the DOJ it’s important for people to understand the danger of such policies/laws.

Men have been injured or killed by armed cops who show up at their door at oh, dark thirty to steal their guns. No one warned them that men in balaclavas were coming.
John Lott, a researcher, reports that the Red Flag laws are not effective in saving lives.
The DOJ website states on its page of stakeholders for law enforcement, mental-health officials, “judicial officers”, attorneys, and families that “successful ERPO implementation (Red Flag), requires the collaboration of various stakeholders.” These partners all play a role in the successful implementation of ERPO.
As J Michael Waller points out, we all know what this means: “political Police.”

If Second Amendment supporters do not stop it, this will turn into a list of all gun owners that will be labeled “dangerous.”
