Trump Mocks AOC Over Leadership Bid Failure: ‘Don’t Give Up, Success Takes Time’

Donald Trump, the President-elect, offered some encouragement to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (Socialists-NY) after she did not secure enough votes for her to take the lead as the top Democrat in the House Oversight and Accountability Committee during the upcoming Congress.

AOC’s bid was defeated by Virginia Rep. Gerry Connolly. Connolly received 131 votes, while AOC only got 84. This shows the Democratic caucus prefers seniority. Or, more literally, a preference for seniors.

Some have viewed the vote as a defeat for the progressive, younger wing of the Democratic Party. Others point out that Nancy Pelosi, the 84-year-old former House Speaker (D-CA), played a part in derailing AOC’s ambitions to become the next leader.

Trump chose to encourage her after he had stifled her ambitions. Although, it is not clear if the words were meant to be sincere or were full of sarcasm.

He wrote, “Really bad that AOC has lost the battle for the leadership seat in the Democrat Party,” on Truth Social. She should try harder. She will succeed one day!

AOC’s silence on Trump’s remarks was a surprise to everyone. She didn’t accuse him of attempted murder as she did once with Senator Ted Cruz (R – TX). She didn’t accuse him of making comments meant to incite violence against her. She did not accuse her of making comments intended to incite violence against her.

She laughed a little bit about it.

She wrote “Damn” alongside a screenshot showing Trump’s remarks. “You know that it’s bad if even Trump feels bad for me.”

Ocasio Cortez also added an emoji of a woman crying and laughing.

Could this be an indication of a thawing of the relationship between them? Two New York politicians that seem to transcend politics, and reach out to the respective groups in a way not seen by typical stuffy elected officials.

Not likely.

It still makes you wonder. When asked to give a description of the former bartender, this summer’s President-elect gave praise. After initially calling her “fake”, Trump retracted his statement and said she had “a spark.”

But in fairness, she is aware of it. She has a thing going. It’s good. “Good for her,” Trump told internet personality Adin Ros during an interview. She’s got an amazing spark. She has a good sparkle. I’ll make a change. “I’ll say spark.”

Trump went one step further and said, “She has a lot of sizzle.”

Ocasio Cortez, despite her newfound respect for Trump, hasn’t exactly backed off in her criticisms of him as a fascist.

She said that following the elections, “I believe we are in a period where let’s call it, there have been massive movements in the history of people who mobilize themselves to protect each other in times of fascism or authoritarianism.” “And this is the age that we are about to enter.”

A report from last month indicated that Democrats were feeling “lost” and “rudderless” in the wake of Trump’s victory. Some even went so far as to consider AOC a possible presidential candidate for 2028.
