Let’s examine the facts here, because they reveal everything wrong with our current border crisis and the political response to it.

On November 16, a joint law enforcement operation by the FBI and Department of Homeland Security raided an illegal nightclub in San Antonio, Texas. The results were staggering. Authorities detained 143 illegal aliens, 51 of whom were confirmed members of Tren de Aragua, the violent Venezuelan gang that the Trump administration designated as a foreign terrorist organization earlier this year.

The South Texas Homeland Security Task Force executed the operation at 5939 San Pedro Avenue based on credible reports of criminal activity. We are not talking about minor infractions. Authorities had intelligence indicating narcotics distribution, illegal weapons possession, and human trafficking at this location. The raid yielded three firearms, cocaine, and more than $30,000 in cash.

The demographics of those arrested tell their own story about the border crisis. Of the 143 detained, 98 were Venezuelan nationals, 21 were Honduran, 14 were Mexican, four were Cuban, two were Ecuadorian, and one each from Nicaragua, Peru, Guatemala, and El Salvador. This represents a cross-section of illegal immigration from across Latin America, concentrated in one illegal establishment.

Here is where it gets particularly concerning. Of those arrested, 25 had existing criminal records in the United States, including 13 felony offenses and 12 misdemeanors. These individuals were not only in the country illegally but had already committed crimes on American soil and apparently remained free to continue their activities.

Now, the logical response to such an operation would be commendation for law enforcement protecting American communities from a designated terrorist organization operating on our soil. Instead, two Texas Democrats have chosen a different path.

Congressmen Joaquin Castro and Greg Cassar sent a letter to senior Trump administration officials demanding evidence used to justify the search warrant and expressing concern about the legality of the detentions. Their letter stated they were “extremely concerned about the legality of the detainments and the due process of the detainees,” citing “numerous reports this year on agents of Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and other agencies overstepping their legal authority.”

Let’s be clear about what happened here. Law enforcement conducted a targeted operation against a known gang gathering point, arrested over 50 members of a designated foreign terrorist organization, and removed 143 illegal aliens from American streets. They seized drugs, weapons, and substantial cash proceeds likely from criminal activity. This is precisely what immigration enforcement should look like.

The demand for “full transparency” from Castro and Cassar rings hollow when weighed against the facts. A terrorist organization was operating openly in their state. Human trafficking was reportedly occurring. Drugs and weapons were present. Yet their concern centers not on the victims of these crimes or the American citizens endangered by this criminal enterprise, but on the due process rights of illegal aliens affiliated with a terrorist organization.

This represents a fundamental inversion of priorities. The primary responsibility of government is protecting American citizens. When law enforcement acts on credible intelligence to dismantle criminal operations run by designated terrorist organizations, that deserves support, not suspicion.

The question these congressmen should be asking is not why this raid occurred, but how 51 members of a terrorist organization were able to congregate freely in an American city in the first place. That is the scandal demanding answers.
