Couple Barred from Fostering Children Over Beliefs on Transgenderism, Marriage

Published on

A Massachusetts couple filed a suit after they were allegedly treated discriminatorily in their attempts to become foster parents. Mike Burke and his wife Kitty, who both served in the Iraq War, claim that officials, despite their clean records and meeting all other requirements, did not find them “supportive” of their views on marriage and transgenderism.

Becket, a non-profit legal organization that supports the Burkes, released the following statement:

Mike and Kitty completed their training successfully when they applied to be foster parents in the year 2022. The instructor informed DCF of their positive contributions to the class, noting how the couple helped enrich the training program. They also had to undergo extensive interviews and home studies. Mike and Kitty stressed their willingness to foster special needs children and children with diverse backgrounds throughout the process. Mike and Kitty expressed an openness to foster sibling groups as well so that children with special needs could maintain their family ties. The Burkes are an ideal foster home in every way.

The Burkes, during their home interviews were concerned that many of the questions revolved around their Catholic views regarding sexual orientation, marriage, and gender dysphoria. The Burkes responded to the questions by saying that they would accept and love any child regardless of their future sexual orientation. Mike and Kitty Burke said that they would hold on to their religious beliefs regarding gender and sexuality. Massachusetts, however, denied them the license to foster any children because, as stated by the reviewer, “their religion is not supportive, and neither are they.”

The Burkes were completely barred from adopting any child, according to the lawsuit. Instead of just not assigning a child that “identifies” in this way, they were also denied the right to foster.

This denial occurred despite the fact the State of Massachusetts is experiencing a severe lack of foster parents. As many as 1,500 children are currently without a home. It is safe to assume that most of these children don’t “identify” themselves as LGBTQIA. This makes the decision even more unjustifiable.

Children who need homes, like women, are denied their needs so that the state can “affirm” a small fraction of foster children.

The lawsuit continues to describe in great detail the foster system in Massachusetts, as well as the protections that the Massachusetts constitution offers for prospective foster parents’ religious freedom. The legal filing also includes a number of reports and emails that provide proof of their side.

Republicans need to understand that if they do not take these issues seriously, these injustices will continue to spread. It’s time to stop throwing away winnable elections because once the left has absorbed the culture and turned it into law it is almost impossible to turn back. The transgender ideology is still pervasive. It aims to destroy the institutions which have supported the nation. The Founding Fathers would never have imagined, in a million lifetimes, that a person’s Christian faith could prevent them from becoming parents. But that’s what is happening.
