Donald Trump Jr. announced on Monday that a former Pentagon aide to Pete Hegseth, who had written a scathing opinion piece in Politico about a department which he described as being “in shambles”, is now exiled from the Make America Great Again movement.
Trump Jr. announced on his X account on social media that “He is officially exiled from the movement.”
Trump Jr. didn’t name his target, but he posted a link to an article published by Politico. “Tonight, @politico, we have published an article from John Ullyot, who has just resigned as the top Pentagon spokesperson, warning that the department is in turmoil – and predicting that it will cost Pete Hegseth’s job.”
Trump Jr. started his speech by saying. “This guy [Ullyot] does not represent America First. For years, I’ve heard that he works hard to undermine my father’s agenda. That ends today.”
The opinion piece published by Politico on Sunday is titled, “Former Top Pentagon Spokesperson Details ‘Month From Hell’ Inside the Agency.” Little of Ullyot wrote is complimentary of Hegseth and notes that his departure from the Pentagon was his decision. The AP reported on Thursday that he was asked to resign.
Hegseth stated on Monday that former employees who are disgruntled do not make good sources for the media. “We are changing the Defense Department, and we’re putting the Pentagon in the hands again of the warfighters.”
Karoline Leavitt, White House Press Secretary, confirmed on Monday that Hegseth’s position within the administration is secure.
